Do you ever get them days when you feel like baking something and having a cup of tea along with it? For me, scones are the easiest English tea time treat. They taste nice warm and dipped in with milk. I always have them in the morning and occasionally I fill them with jam. This is a really simple and easy recipe. Here is the recipe. What you will need:
225g of self raising flour
Pinch of salt
55g of butter
25g of caster sugar
150ml of milk
1 egg beaten using a little milk
Preheat the oven to 220c/425f/Gas 7.
Lightly grease a baking tin and place a piece of baking paper on top.
In one bowl, mix together the flour and salt then rub ine butter. You can either do this by a mixer or by using your hands and rubbing in the butter. I would do it in a mixer.
Stir in the sugar and the milk and mix until you get a soft dough.
Turn onto a floured surface and start kneading very lightly. Pat it out to 2cm thick. Use a 5cm cutter to stamp out as many circles as you can.
Brush the tops of the scones using a pastry brush and the beaten egg. Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes until well risen and a light golden brown.
Take them out and let them cool on a cooling rack or enjoy them warm.
